I just went through the comments and am glad to see that I am not alone in sinning CinemaSins for sinning this masterpiece. Also noticed that I already gave this a dislike so respect for my past self. Learn when to stop dude
You don't think Tiana would memorize that story, Jeremy? The one told to her by the father whose memory she cherishes?
And you trashed Keith David's singing? He was killing it during that song.
Jeremy, your hatred of jazz has gone too far. "Almost There" is fucking fantastic.
3:24 Dr. Facilier's motivations for wanting to seize power really do not need to be explained, Jeremy. He was a black man in 1920s America. It really shouldn't take a lot of imagination to figure out what would drive him to seek greater power than he would normally have. And no, that's not me defending his actions. He was still planning to sacrifice an entire city of more or less innocent people to his "friends". I'm just pointing out that there's a greater context to his actions that the movie rightfully chooses not to go into because anyone with a basic knowledge of US history should be able to understand it.
2:40 Dr. Facilier is an asshole who likes to fuck with people. News at 11.
THIS MOVIE IS SO GOOD IDC IDC
I love the movie, except that I hate that it got cheesy in the second half when Tiana and Naveen randomly fell in love and with the stupid dig a little deeper song and all that. Why didn't they keep it all focused on Tiana wanting to work for her restuarant and Naveen & Charlotte getting married just as it was in the first half?? You can't propose something and then immediately plothole your way out of it halfway through the movie. Not to mention that they also twisted what Tiana's dad said to her about family and love. Love isn't just romantic, there's also love for your friends and family. Tiana loved her mother and father and Lottie and she loved what she was working for, she didn't have to fall for Naveen (especially considering she literally had NO interest for him throughout the first half of the movie until it was forced).Tiana should've stayed single and ambitious and should've gotten her restuarant through her hard work and with help from her loved ones, Naveen and Lottie should've gotten married (good interracial relationship representation), and goddammit Louis should've become human!!
Sin #107 flaw: Tiana is black and this movie is set in a time when riverboats like that were still in common use, in the south, the bayou sure but still the south in like the 1920s, and Martin Luther King Jr. has yet to be assassinated for at least another 40 years or so.Also Disney didn't really cool it back with the racism, both subtle and not so, for another couple of years after this movie was originally released.
It was almost there.
